The idea
for Sports C.I.T.I.
was born out of the spirit and love of the game of basketball. It
was developed to provide the many benefits of athletics for all its
participants beyond the enjoyment of the game. To us, sports are
more than just games played for pleasure by many young people across
the globe. To us, sports can be used to nurture and motivate young
people not only to improve their individual athletic skill; it also
helps to develop one’s character. Thus, it is our belief that when
properly coached and administered, sports/athletics can be used as a
vehicle for teaching life skills that go beyond the sport.
Our Mission
To
use sports as our vehicle to challenge African-American male youth
to achieve excellence in academics, and extra curricular activities
while balancing their commitment to self, family, and the community
in which they live.
Who We Are
Sports C.I.T.I.
is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to impacting the lives of
inner city African-American males by providing programming designed
to enhance their ability to envision and attain the necessary life
skills that lead to healthy and successful lives.
What We Do
Here at Sports C.I.T.I.,
our staff is committed to giving athletes first-rate training, both
mentally and physically, and is dedicated to building lasting
relationships with every athlete that participate in the program. We
work hard to create an atmosphere that not only promotes athletic
excellence, but also builds character. We believe by providing young
athletes with detailed and precise instruction in performance
training and character development that the two can contribute to
developing the “complete athlete” on and off the court or playing
field.
How We Do It
Performance Skill Training:
Our performance skill training methods are designed to increase
overall athletic skills, core-strength, speed and agility, while
gaining a greater knowledge of sports performance. With these
improvements, student athletes will attain a higher level of
performance in whatever sport they choose to participate.
Character Development /Mentoring:
We focus on the development of a student’s mind and soul. During our
character development sessions, we examine issues such as:
character, attitude, getting along, spirituality, appearance,
communication, working with a plan, matter of money, giving back and
being the best you can be. The lasting value of our Sports C.I.T.I.
Academy is realized through the ability to apply lessons that are
learned in sports to the rest of life. We teach young athletes do
this by building trusting and challenging relationships, as well as
maintaining respect for themselves and others.
Where We Do It
Sports C.I.T.I.
does all of its training and character
development out of Minneapolis North, Roosevelt, and Washburn High
Schools, through the boy’s basketball programs. Together Sports C.I.T.I.
and the 3 Minneapolis High Schools have
formed a partnership that provides young African-American athletes a
place to develop both mentally and physically. It is our desire to
be the premiere performance skill and character development program
in Minnesota.
